It’s been an interesting autumn season out here at Chez Oddbooks and I am under the weather, so to speak. I hopefully will resume Halloween-y posts no later than Thursday. Until then, please feel free to share any creepy or Halloweenish story you think I’d like to hear. Any awesome horror novels or movies you’ve consumed lately? Did you listen to the Silencer video in today’s earlier entry and want to sue me for emotional damages? Comment away!
I’ve been doing a challenge to read 31 horror books by the end of October. It’s been an interesting experience.
I read Let’s Go Play at the Adams’ by Mendal Johnson. I didn’t think I could find a horror book more depressing and disturbing than Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door, but this is it. Probably the most nihilistic thing I’ve ever read.
Jeremy Robert Johnson’s Angel Dust Apocalypse is probably my favorite that I”ve read so far. They’re just some plain great short stories. I think you reviewed Extinction Journals on here some time back. There’s a prequel story to it in here that’s just as fun to read.
Right now I’m reading The Cipher by Kathe Koja. It’s a very weird and heavy experience. It’s also putting me behind on her challenge because her choppy, stream-of-consciousness prose doesn’t make for a quick read. I am enjoying it very much though and I can see why others have praised it so much.
Tonight I’m going to see a screening of the silent film version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with a live band doing the soundtrack. I saw the same band doing the same with Nosferatu last year and it was awesome, so I’m looking forward to that.
